Our Purpose
The Pyramid PIECES Behavior Support Network began in 2020 in response to a need in the early childhood community to support teachers and families in meeting the needs of children who are exhibiting persistent challenging behaviors. These behaviors are significant and often leave teachers and families feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and hopeless. These same behaviors put young children at risk for suspension and expulsion from their child care programs.
Did You Know?
Children younger than five years of age are three times more likely to be expelled than children in kindergarten through twelfth grade combined. Walter S. Gilliam, PhD
Our goal is to partner with and support child care providers, in community centers and school-based classrooms, and families, to feel confident and competent in supporting the needs of children with persistent challenging behaviors.
By establishing partnerships and support, we want to make sure that children can maintain enrollment in their child care program through the development of healthy and nurturing relationships between teachers, families, and peers.
A team approach of support is used to address, assess, and positively impact the social and emotional development of young children to meet their full potential in the early childhood classroom setting.
